Activity to perform chromatography -

Material required-

• A small strip of filterpaper or newspaper.
• 2 glasses. One should fill with water.
• All pin to pin the strip.
• A pencil.
• Brown sketch pen.

Procedure-

1. Take a small strip of filter paper or newspaper side strip(where there is nothing written.)
2. Fold the strip on the pencil (a little) and pin it.
3. From below of the strip make a line with the help of a pencil, nearly 3-4 cm above the below of strip.
4. Then take a brown coloured sketch pen and make a small dot in the center of the line.
5. Then take another glass filled with water, but water should be below the marked line.
6. Lower the filter paper in the glass filled with water, and keep it undisturbed at one place.
7. After some time you will observe that the water is rising and colours are getting seperated.

Conclusion-

Blue + orange + yellow colours will appear on the strip. This is how chromatography is done and different colours geta seperated.
