Chromium is a shiny metal that does not corrode. Instead of electroplating iron with chromium, why are sanitary fittings not made of chromium itself?

Chromium is very costly and is not economically friendly. That is why iron is electroplated with a thin layer of chromium to make it less corrosive rather than using chromium itself. It is also not an abundantly found element and is difficult to extract.
