The balanced reaction is

Cr + NiSO₄ → CrSO₄ + Ni

According to the metal activity series, any metal situated above any other metal in the series can displace it from the salt solution.

In the series, Cr lies above Ni.

So, Cr can easily displace Ni from its salt solution (NiSO₄) to produce its own salt, chromium sulphate (CrSO₄), which is green in colour and Ni.

Cr + NiSO₄ → CrSO₄ + Ni

Nickel is thus displaced from NiSO₄.
