Number of cathedral voids = 8

The number of atoms of Cr is 8×2/3 = 16/3

Ratio of the number of atoms of Cr and O is M:O = 16/3 : 8 = 16 : 24 = 2 : 3

Cr : O = 2 : 3

Therefore the formula of the compound is M2 O3
