The organelles are only found in plant cells and some protists such as algae. ... Chloroplasts work to convert light energy of the Sun into sugars that can be used by cells. The entire process is called photosynthesis and it all depends on the little green chlorophyll molecules in each chloroplast.

Chloroplast

An organelle found in plant and algae cells where photosynthesis occurs.

Inner Membrane

Located under the smooth outer membrane.

Outer Membrane

The smooth outer covering of the chloroplast

Thylakoid

A flattened membrane sac inside the chloroplast, used to convert light energy into chemical energy.

Granum

A stack of thylakoids in a chloroplast.

Stroma

The fluid of the chloroplast surrounding the thylakoid membrane.

Lamellae

The tissue that connects the grana to each other.

chlorophyll

Green pigment in plants that absorbs light energy used to carry out photosynthesis
