Lomov: Natalya, I can't believe you would do this to me on our wedding day. You know how much this means to me.
Natalya: What are you talking about, Lomov? I'm not doing anything to you.
Lomov: You didn't even bother to bring a wedding dress or any of the other necessary items for the ceremony.
Natalya: That's because I didn't want to get married in the first place. You know I never wanted to marry you, Lomov.
Lomov: But your father, Chubkov, promised me your hand in marriage.
Chubkov: Yes, I did, Lomov. But Natalya is her own person and has the right to make her own decisions about who she marries.
Lomov: But I have already spent so much money and time preparing for this wedding. How can you just back out now, Natalya?
Natalya: I'm sorry, Lomov, but I can't go through with this. I don't love you and I never will.
Lomov: This is outrageous, Chubkov. You have to do something about this.
Chubkov: Lomov, I understand your frustration, but Natalya's happiness is more important to me than anything else. I won't force her to marry someone she doesn't love.
Lomov: But what about all the money and time I have invested in this?
Chubkov: I'm sorry, Lomov, but those things don't matter in the face of Natalya's happiness. The wedding is off.
Natalya: Thank you, Father. I appreciate your understanding.
Lomov: This is ridiculous. I can't believe this is happening.
Chubkov: Lomov, I'm sorry, but it's time for you to leave. Only leave me in peace.
