The tone is given in accusative. Chubokov accuses Lomov's family to have cheated them and grabbed the Oxen Meadows when it rightfully belongs to them. In the play Oxen Meadows becomes a land dispute because both Natalya and Lomov excercise their right over the land and end up in a heated argument. Chubokov's assertion does not improve the situation as he too resorts to name-calling and accuses Lomov of engaging in such betrayal.
