Explanation:

  1. On reacting benzene with chlorine gas in presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride (Alcl3), reaction results into chlorobenzene and take 2 moles of chlorobemzene and react it with 2 moles of sodium in presence of dry ether, makes diphenyl and sodium chloride.
  2. Also obtained by reacting benzene with dibromine in presence of fecl3 which gives bromobenzene later react this 2 mole of bromobemzene with 2 mole of Na in presence of dry ether at high temperature it will give diphenyl.

Answer:

The conservation of benzene to biphenyl using Na and dry ether is called FITTING reaction firstly the benzene is treated with Br2/FeBr3 results in the formation of bromobenzene it is an electrophilic substitution

hope this will help u dear!!
