Circular Motion
question from cengage.
A particle P of mass m is attached
to a vertical axis by two strings
AP and BP of length I each.
The separation AB = 1. P rotates
around the axis with an angular
velocity 0. The tensions in the
two strings are T, and T. Choose
the correct option(s).

Answer:

(T1 + T2) = mω2l

Explanation:

The ΔABP will be an equilateral trianlge. Let T1 and T2 be tensions in PA and PB respectively.

Then, considering the vertical forces;

T1 cos 60 = T2 cos 60 + mg

or,   T1/2− T2/2 = mg

or,    T1 −  T2=2mg

Now taking the horizontal components;

T1 sin 60 +  T2 sin 60 = mrω2

r = l√3/2

or,

(T1 + T2) √3 / 2 = mω2l  √3 / 2

(T1 + T2) = mω2l
