Stability. Usually for acyclic systems trans isomers are more stable than cis isomers. This is typically due to the increased unfavourable steric interaction of the substituents in the cis isomer. Therefore, trans isomers have aless exothermic heat of combustion, indicating higher thermochemical stability.
