Citation on the Plight of Farmers “Unfavourable trends in the Indian agricultural sector have contributed towards increasing agrarian crisis. 10349 farmers committed suicide in India in the year 2018 out of which 9528 are male, and 821 are female. In most of the cases women were never considered as farmers instead, they were considered as the widows of the male farmers or as the helping hand of the family. As the second sex women, farmers are used as Marx's reserve army, and this leads to the troubles they have to face as dependent farmers of the family or the widower of a deceased farmer. The struggle for survival by these women is filled with obstacles and uncertainties. They are left fending for themselves, their children, their elderly, along with the harassment of the bank and money lenders. In this context, the present chapter examines the status of the women farmers in India and analyses the problems they face because of the non-recognition of their work.”
