Feedback loops are used extensively to regulate secretion of hormones in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. When blood concentrations of thyroid hormones increase above a certain threshold, TRH-secreting neurons in the hypothalamus are inhibited and stop secreting TRH. This is an example of "negative feedback"

A feed back mechanism to be understood in a simple language, is just like the tap which checks the overflow. But, in case of your body, these taps are located in your hypothalamus. When water(here, hormones) overflow or if you see electricity MCBs, they also work like our body's feedback mechanism. If extra electric current flow, MCB shuts it down, likewise, in our body wherever enough amount of hormones are released, hypothalamus shuts down its secretion. Thus maintaining a proper balance in our Body.
