Heya !
_____

___________________________________________________________

◼Aim of the Experiment : to show that sound needs a material medium for its propagation.

◼Materials Required : an electric bell , a vacuum pump , a bell jar.

◼Procedure :

→Suspend an electric bell in a bell jar.

→As you complete the bell circuit , the sound of the bell can be heard clearly as sound of the bell has a medium ( air ) for its propagation .

→In the next step , suck out all the air from the bell jar.

→Now again complete the bell circuit . But this time , you won't hear any sound as it has no medium to travel.

◼Observations -

→Sound of bell is heard when there's medium [ air ] but not in vacuum .

◼Conclusion - sound needs a material medium for its propagation . It cannot travel in vacuum .

=> Extra Info : sound travels the fastest in Solids > Liquids > Gases.

[ I've attached the diagram for this experiment . Please refer the attachment ]

Bell Jar experiment ;- __________________________________________________________

Take an electric bell and an airtight glass bell jar. The electric bell is suspended inside the airtight bell jar.

The bell jar is connected to a vacuum pump. Now we have to press the switch and we will be able to hear the bell. Now we have to start the vacuum pump.

iWhen the air in the jar is pumped out gradually, the sound becomes fainter, although the same current is passing through the bell.

After some time when a bit amount of air is left inside the bell jar, we will hear a very feeble sound.

When the air is removed completely, we won't hear a bit sound.

Now, when we fill the jar again with air, we will hear a bit sound which raises as the air is filled in the jar.
