A quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides and four vertices or corners.

Square-like shapes :

They are often used for uniformity since they have equal sides and also their diagonals are equal. In the construction of cubical rooms of a hostel the property of a square is used. They are easy to make patterns with. This applies also to rectangles which have equal lengths and equal widths.

Shapes like trapeziums:

They are four sided with a wide base and a narrower top. They are used for construction of roofs since most roofs are trapezoidal in shape.

Shapes such as rhombus and parallelogram or any other irregular quadrilaterals are important for design: They are used to make make beautiful. They can be used in tiles and also window frames. This is because these shapes are not uniform.
