Example: Represent the given situation in the form of uadratic equation
The area of a rectangular plot is 528 sqm. The length of the plot(in metres) is one more than twice its breadth. We ned to find the length and breadth of the plot.
Solution: Let the breadth be x metres . Then the length =2x+1 metres
It is given that the area of plot= 528 sqm
therefore, (2x+1).x=528
2
2x +x --528=0 is the required quadratic equation.
Exercise:(1) The product of two consecutive positive integers is306.We need to find the integer.
(2)Rohan's mother is 26 years older than him.The product of their ages(in years) 3 year from now will be 360.We would like to find Rohan's present age.

Answer:

let the present age of rohan=x yrs

then the present age of Rohan's mother =x+26

then the age of Rohan after3yrs will be=(x+3)yrs

and

age of his mother after 3yrs=x+26+3=(x+29)

now product of their ages after 3yrs =360

(x+3)(x+29)=360

=x square +29x+3x+87=360

=x square +32x+87-360=0

x square +32x-273=0

x square +39x-7x-273=0

x(x+39)-7(x+39)=0

=(x-7)(x+39)=0

=x=7or x=-39

x value cannot be negative

x=present age of Rohan =7yrs
