Clarify plants take in oxygen and give out carbondioxide. why do we say then plants supply oxygen to air?

only at night time plant's takes in oxygen and gives out carbon dioxide due to the absence of sun light and plants takes in co2 and gives O2 during day time because of the presence of sunlight so they can prepare their own food and release oxygen so we can say that plant's supplies oxygen to air
