• In a food chain, the flow of energy is from one tropic level to another which is used up by organisms for various physiological purposes. The decomposition of total amount of energy absorbed cannot be reversed. So the flow of energy in a food chain is unidirectional.
• But in bio-geochemical cycles after the death of that particular organism, the minerals in them are released in soil and they were re utilized by plants and being recirculated in ecosystem. Thus the flow of materials in an ecosystem is cyclic.

• Plants have 20,000 J energy available given from the sun

• Plants transferred their 10% energy to deer

        ⇒ 10% of 20,000

        = $20000$ × $\frac{10}{100}$

        = $\frac{200000}{100}$

        = 2000J

• Deer received 2000 J energy from the plants

• And now deer transfer 10% energy of itself to lion.

        ⇒ 10% of 2,000

        = $2000$ × $\frac{10}{100}$

        = $\frac{20000}{100}$

        = 200J

• Lion will have 200 J energy from deer
