class 10 ncert Ch 1 ex 1.2 question 2 maths question is :- prove that the product of two consecutive integers is always even .

Answer :-

Let us assume that, the two consecutive integers are x and (x + 1) .

since, we know that,

  • when we take any two consecutive integers one them must be an even number . Ex , (3,4) (5,6) (9,10) ,(16,17) etc .

so, we can conclude that,

  • Either x = even
  • or, (x + 1) = even .

we can write even numbers in form of 2n .

then,

→ x * (x + 1) will be,

  • 2n * (x + 1)
  • x * 2n where 2n = x + 1

therefore,

→ 2n * (x + 1) ÷ 2 = Remainder 0

→ x * 2n ÷ 2 = Remainder 0 .

hence, we can conclude that, the product of two consecutive integers is always even .
