Answer:

We know that,

tan A =  \frac{sin A}{cos A} ,

cot A =  \frac{cos A}{sin A}

LHS = cot A - tan A

=>  \frac{cos A}{sin A} -  \frac{sin A}{cos A}

=>  \frac{cos^2A - sin^2A}{sinAcosA}

We know that,

=> sin^2 A + cos^2A =1

=> sin^2 A = 1 - cos^2A

=> - sin^2A = cos^2A - 1

Answer:

cot theta = cos theta / sin theta

tan theta = sin theta/cos theta

substitute in given LHS

cos theta / sin theta - sin theta / cos theta =

cos^2 theta - sin^2 theta / sin theta . cos theta

we know that from trigonometric identity I we get,

sin^2 theta = 1-cos^2 theta

= cos^2 theta - ( 1- cos ^2 theta )/ sin theta. cos theta

= cos^2 theta - 1 + cos^2 theta/sin theta. cos theta

2 cos^2 theta - 1 / sin theta. cos theta = R H S
