Motion in a Straight Line :

1. One dimensional motion :

When the position of object changes with respect to the reference point along with one of the three axes , this type of motion is called 1-d motion.

Eg. = An object falling freely under gravity.

2. Two Dimensional Motion :

When the position of an object changes with respect to reference point along two out of three axes, this type of motion is called 2 - d motion. ( motion in a plane )

Eg. = Motion of insect on the floor.

3. Three Dimensional Motion :

When the position of object changes with respect to all the three axes, then this type of motion is called 3 - d motion.

Eg. = Flying of a mosquito.

Q. What is One Dimensional motion?

Answer:

A body is said to have a one dimensional motion, if only one out of three coordinates specifying the position of an object changes the respective time.

Eg: A car moving on a straight line, A ball thrown upward.

Q. What is Two Dimensional motion?

Answer:

A body is said to have a two dimensional motion, if only two out of three coordinates specifying the position of an object changes with respect to time.

Eg: A carrom coin on a carrom board, An insect crawling on a floor.

Q. What is Three Dimensional motion?

Answer:

A body is said to have a three dimensional motion, if all the three coordinates specifying the position of an object changes with respect to time.

Eg: An aeroplane flying in the sky, A kite flying.
