Mrs Dorling was a very shrewd and cunning lady, who was double faced as well. She pretended to be very caring and thoughtful towards narrator and her family but her real intentions were revealed when she was confronted by the narrator many years later. She wished and expected narrators family to be killed during the war so that she could take over all their belongings. Indeed she was very materialistic, however she did not have a very good sense of taking care of things and decor of her house. Although she wanted those things to be with her, but never took care of them as much as narrator's mother used to take, which was very evident by the facts stated in the story about the conditions about things Narrator The narrator was a very loving, caring and obedient daughter. Answer:

NARRATOR'S CHARACTER SKETCH

the narrator Margo Minco had come back to the address which her mother made her remember.

margo was initially afraid to confront the things that had a connection to someone that no longer existed. she was filled with guilt sadness  and remorse and didn't want to remember the things that would trigger these emotions. but as time went by the atmosphere got lighter she could sleep unthreatened she became curious of the address and decided to give the place a visit.

this behaviour of hers indicates her courage to confront her past

Even though she was sent away the first time she visited Mrs D's house again to get an explanation for her belongings to mainly get a sense of closure.

this shows her persistent character. she would not give up

after the narrator saw the manner her things were kept in she could not identify them according to her" the objects that are linked in your memory lose their value when, served from them , you see them again in strange surroundings" she was practical she realised that she no more had place for them in her house to store nor did she have the time to waste on dwelling on something that was no longer the way she knew it was so she decided to forget the address

this shows how practical the narrator is and how she decided to move away from her past this again shows courage as she decides to move away from the past than to dwell on it.
