1. The ovarian follicle is a cellular aggregation in female reproductive system. It consists of theca extern, theca interne, ovum which is surrounded by membrane granulosa. It has a cavity within it which is called as antrum. It also has the cluster of cells surrounding the ovum. Oocytes before and after ovulation are surrounded by cumulus granulosa. It gives support to the oocyte and provides maturation to them.
2. FSH is responsible for maturation and development of follicles. LH is anterior pituitary hormone and LH surge on day 14 of cycle causes rupture of Graffian follicle and released of an ovum. Estrogen is produced by developing follicles and corpus luteum while progesterone is secreted by corpus luteum. Progesterone stimulates endometrium thickening and preparation of the uterus for implantation.
