area of rectangular mat= area of border
Rectangular mat
length(l)=5m
breadth (b)= 3.5m
area of rectangular mat = l×b
=5×3.5
=17.5m2
Rectangular mat (with border)
length (l)=5m+1.8m=6.8m
breadth (b)=3.5m+1.8m=5.3m
area of rectangular mat with border=l×b
=6.8m×5.3m
=36.04m2
area of border=area of rectangular mat- area of rectangular mat with border
=17.5-36.04
=18.54m2
cost of 1m2=Rs.272
cost of 18.54m2=272×18.54
=Rs.5,042.88
Hence,the cost of border is Rs.5,042.88
