Let the length of base, b be ' x '.

So according to the question,

Length of the altitude, h ( also known as height ) = 2x

Now,

We are given that the area of parallelogram is 288 sq. cm

Also we are aware of the formula of the area of a parallelogram,

Area of a parallelogram = b * h

So on relating both the equations,

b * h = 288 sq. cm

Substituting the values as we assumed,

x * 2x = 288

2x ^ 2 = 288
x ^ 2 = 288 / 2
x ^ 2 = 144
x = √ 144
x = 12 cm

Hence,

Base = x = 12 cm
Altitude = 2x = 2 * 12 = 24 cm
