Industrial Policy Resolution of 1956 (IPR 1956) is a resolution adopted by the Indian Parliament in April 1956. It was the first comprehensive statement on industrial development of India. The 1956 policy continued to constitute the basic economic policy for a long time.

The principles were: (i) Mutual respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, (ii) non-aggression, (iii) non interference in each other's internal affairs, (iv) equality and mutual benefit, and (v) peaceful co-existence. The foreign policy of the Modi government (also referred to as the Modi Doctrine) concerns the policy initiatives made towards other states by the current Modi government after he assumed office as Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014.
