• The death by lightning occurs due to to cardiac arrest.
• You can give him first aid by performing CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and mouth to mouth breathing which is to be learnt from a trained person.

• In highly seismic areas the use of mud or timber is better than the heavy construction material. Make roofs as light as possible. In case the structure falls the damage not heavy.
• Use non-skid shelf liners for kitchen and bathroom cupboards, medicine cabinets and closet shelves.

What is a lightning rod? How it protects the building?

Lightning rod is a device used to secure tall buildings from the effect of lightning.

• A metallic rod taller than the height of the building to be protected is installed in the walls of buildings during its construction.
• One end of the rod is kept out in the air and other fixed in the ground. This proved easy route for transfer of electric discharge to the ground.
• Several such rods would be required to safeguard a building with a large lightning conductor.
• The metal columns used during construction and wiring, plumbing also g in be protection up to some extent.
• But do not touch them during a thunderstorm.

What are seismic zones? Where are the main seismic zones are located in our country?

The boundaries of plates are the week zones where earthquake are more likely to occur. They are also known as seismic or fault zones.

In India most threatened are Kashmir, Western and Central Himalayas, whole of North East, Rann of Kutch, Rajasthan and the Indo-Genetic plane. Some of South India also fall in the danger zone.
