Answer:

I Fill in the blanks:

1. Endoplasmic reticulum

2. protein, a single molecule of DNA

3. cristae

4. Vacuoles

5. cytoskeleton

6. sperm

7. Deoxyribonucleic acid

8. adenosine triphosphate

9. WBCs, amoeba

10. Caulerpa taxifolia

II. Write the functions of following:

a) Areolar tissue  - Areolar connective tissue holds organs in place and attaches epithelial tissue to other underlying tissues. It also serves as a reservoir of water and salts for surrounding tissues.

b) Lymph  - They include protecting your body from illness-causing invaders, maintaining body fluid levels, absorbing digestive tract fats and removing cellular waste.

c) Golgi bodies  - It helps process and package proteins and lipid molecules, especially proteins destined to be exported from the cell.

d) Nucleus  - As it contains genetic material, it coordinates cell activities like protein synthesis and cell division.

e) Protective tissue in plants - They prevent desiccation, mechanical injury, and infection in plants.

III. Differentiate between

a) Nuclear region of bacteria :

  • They are void of any membrane
  • They have free RNA and nucleic acid

Nuclear region of animal cell :

  • They have well bounded membrane
  • They have proper nucleus

b) Epidermis:

  • Epidermal cells cover the entire plant body during primary growth.
  • They occur as a single layer of cells.

Cork:

  • Cork cells cover the stem and root of the plant after the secondary growth of the plant.
  • Cork cells originate from the cork cambium.

c) Osmosis:

  • Osmosis is the movement of solvent particles across a semipermeable membrane from a dilute solution into a concentrated solution
  • Osmosis always occurs across a semipermeable membrane.

Diffusion:

  • Diffusion is the movement of particles from an area of higher concentration  to lower concentration.
  • Diffusion can occur in any mixture, including one that includes a semipermeable
