Q1. Why are Thiruvananthapuram and Shillong rainier in June than in July?
Ans. The Southwest monsoon hits Thiruvananthapuram and Shillong around the
1st of June. Thiruvananthapuram receives rain from Arabian Sea branch of
monsoon, while Shillong receives Rain from the Bay of Bengal branch. After
causing the rain in these regions, these two branches keep moving on to the other

Northeast while the Bay of Bengal branch moves from the north east to the
Northwest) As a result, this region receives less rainfall in the month, succeeding
June.
