The reign of terror started from June 1793 - July 1794. The leader of the reign of terror was Maximilien Robespierre.

The measures taken by Robespierre government are as follows :

1. Meat and bread was rationed .
2. Peasants were ordered to sell their grains in cities at fixed prices .
3. Churches were converted in Baracks/offices .
4. Equality was to be practised through forms of speech and address. French men and women were hitherto known as Citbyen and Citoyenne (Citizen) instead of the traditional Monsieur (Sir) and Madame (Madam).
