Answer:

1. Leucoplasts are colourless plastids and mainly help in storage of food compounds like starch, proteins and oil drops. Such colourless plastids are present in underground roots, stems.

2. In the liver, enzymes in the SER catalyze reactions that render drugs, metabolic wastes, and harmful chemicals water-soluble, thereby contributing to their detoxification, or removal, from the body.

3. The RER appears rough because of the presence ribosomes which manufactures proteins . The RER is rough as it has ribosomes in its structure. The RER prepares proteins because of these ribosomes which is known as the protein synthesis. RER APPEAR ROUGH DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF RIBOSOMES ON ITS SURFACE.

4. Viruses are not living things. Viruses are complicated assemblies of molecules, including proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates, but on their own they can do nothing until they enter a living cell. Without cells, viruses would not be able to multiply. Therefore, viruses are not living things.

5. The nucleoid (meaning nucleus-like) is an irregularly shaped region within the prokaryotic cell that contains all or most of the genetic material. The chromosome of a prokaryote is circular, and its length is very large compared to the cell dimensions needing it to be compacted in order to fit.

6 . A phenomenon called endosmosis takes place when raisins are placed in water for few hours. When raisins are soaked in water, they swell. All this is due to the process of osmosis. The water molecules pass the cell membrane of the raisins and the raisins thus get swollen.

7.Function. Chromoplasts are found in fruits, flowers, roots, and stressed and aging leaves, and are responsible for their distinctive colors. This is always associated with a massive increase in the accumulation of carotenoid pigments. The conversion of chloroplasts to chromoplasts in ripening is a classic example.

8. Genes are found on tiny spaghetti-like structures called chromosomes (say: KRO-moh-somes). And chromosomes are found inside cells. Your body is made of billions of cells. Cells are the very small units that make up all living things.

9. If animal and plant cells are kept in a hypotonic solution then endosmosis will occur. ... Due to endosmosis, both animal and plant cells will swell. So, the correct answer is option A.

10.

In living beings the osmosis has the following importance: 1. The osmosis aids in transportation of the nutrients from cell to cell and wastes are removed from the cells. ... Through the process of osmosis the roots absorb the moisture and nutrients from the soil.
