Question:

A class has 40 students. When a group of students join, the number of boys goes up  from 10 to 25 and the number of girls goes up by some percentage. The total number of  students increases to 75. What percentage of girls are there in the class now?

Answer:

The present percentage of girls in the class is 66.67%

Given:

The number of students in the class was 40.

After increasing students the number of students becomes 75.

The number of boys was 10.

After increasing students the number of boys becomes 25.

To find:

The present percentage of girls.

Explanation:

The number of student in the class was 40.

Present number of students is 75.

So, the number of students increased = (75-40)

                                                               = 35 students.

Among 40 students, 10 were boys.

So, the number of girls was = (40-10)

                                              = 30 girls.

After increasing the students, the number of boys becomes 25.

∴ The number of boys among the new students(25-10)

                                                                                 = 15 boys.

∴ The number of girls among the new students = (35-15)

                                                                             = 20 girls.

∴ Total number of girls = (30+20)

                                      = 50 girls.

∴ The percentage of girls_

( 50×100/75)

= (50×4/3)

= (200/3)

= 66.67 %

∴ The number of girls is 66.67%.
