Given : diagram showing  the wingspans of different species of birds.

To find : [a]How much longer is the wingspan of an Albatross than the

wingspan of a Sea gull?

(b) How much longer is the wingspan of a Golden eagle than the

wingspan of a Blue jay?

Solution:

wingspan of a Sea gull   = 1 7/10  = 17/10  m

wingspan of an Albatross  = 3 3/5  = 18/5  m

wingspan of an Albatross longer than wingspan of a Sea gull

= 18/5 - 17/10

= 36/10 - 17/10

= 19/10 m

wingspan of a Golden eagle  -= 2  1/2  = 5/2  m

wingspan of blue jay  = 41/100  m

wingspan of a Golden eagle   longer than wingspan of blue jay

= 5/2 - 41/100

= 250/100  - 41/100

= 209/100 m

ratio  of the wingspan of a golden eagle of the wingspan of a blue jay = (5/2)/ (41/100)

= 250/41

wingspan of an Albatross longer than wingspan of a Sea gull  = 19/10 m

wingspan of a Golden eagle longer than wingspan of blue jay  = 209/100 m

ratio  of the wingspan of a golden eagle of the wingspan of a blue jay =  250/41
