ATLASTA SCHOOL FOR 'BAD' STUDENTS
(1) Schools all over are only interested in admitting the brightest of students. But in the City of Joy, one
school is all set to buck the trend - by tuming admitted failures into success
(2) The Loreto Day School, Sealdah, has not only vowed to admit all girl students who have been
thrown out of their schools for bad academic records, but it has actually done so. In the last three
years, the school admitted 20 such students, who have passed the board exams with flying colours.
(3) The number of students who get thrown out of elite schools are on the rise." said Sister Cyril, the
Principal of Loreto Day, Sealdah.
(4) There are many reasons that bring about the situation. Some schools are too overcrowded to pay
extra attention to students who need it. Others are too concemned about the school's Image - all
students must be able to score excellent marks- to tolerate anyone who's just average.
(5) "No student is such a slow learner that she needs to be thrown out of school. The fault.if any, lies in
the way we teach the child. We should actually take corrective steps rather than throw out innocent
children from school,"fumed Sister Cyril.
(6) Letting out her secret to success, a beaming Sister Cyril said the approach of the school was to help
students assimilate the essence of each chapter and not encourage them to learn everything by
heart. The improvement is magical, she added.
(7) But this does not mean she is accepting every student who fails. "My programme is open only to
children who have been expelled and not to those who are refusing to accept the decision of their
school and merely want a change," she added. The expelled candidate who is accepted in Loreto
Sealdah has to repeat the class.
