With respect to air, the refractive indices of water and benzene
are 1.33 and 1.50 respectively. Calculate the refractive index of
benzene with respect to water.

we know that:
$\mu_{w}=refractive\ index\ of\ water\\\\\mu_{b}=refractive\ index\ of\ benzene\\\\\mu_{bw}=refractive\ index\ of\ benzene\ wrt\ water\\=\frac{\mu_b}{\mu_w}=\frac{1.50}{1.33}=1.128$

Thus th refractive index becomes less wrt to another medium other than air.
