SOLUTION

GIVEN

Class X students of a secondary school in Krishnagar have been allotted a rectangular plot of a land for gardening activity. Saplings of Gulmohar are planted on the boundary at a distance of 1 m from each other. There is a triangular grassy lawn in the plot as shown in the fig. The students are to sow seeds of flowering plants on the remaining area of the plot.

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

Considering A as origin, answer question (i) to (v)

(i) Considering A as the origin, what are the coordinates of A

a) (0,1)

b) (1,0)

c) (0,0)

d) (-1,-1)

(ii) What are the coordinates of P?

a) (4,6)

b) (6,4)

c) (4,5)

d) (5,4)

(iii) What are the coordinates of R?

a) (6,5)

b) (5,6)

c) (6,0)

d) (7,4)

(iv) What are the coordinates of D?

a) (16,0)

b) (0,0)

c) (0,16)

d) (16,1)

(v) What are the coordinate of P if D is taken as the origin?

a) (12,2)

b) (-12,6)

c) (12,3)

d) (6,10)

EVALUATION

Now plot the given data Cartesian Coordinate system as in figure

For first three problem if we consider A as origin then the coordinates of P is ( 4,6), Q is (3,2) , R is (6,5)

For the last question if we consider D as origin the coordinates of P is (-12,6)

FINAL ANSWER

(i) Considering A as the origin

The coordinates of A is obtained by intersection of x = 0 & y = 0

So the coordinates of A is (0,0)

Hence the correct option is c) (0,0)

(ii) We see that for the point P

Abscissa = 4

Ordinate = 6

The coordinates of P (4,6)

Hence the correct option is a) (4,6)

(iii) We see that for the point R

Abscissa = 6

Ordinate = 5

The coordinates of R is (6,5)

Hence the correct option is a) (6,5)

(iv) We see that the point D is a point on x axis at a distance of 16 unit from origin

The coordinates of D is (16,0)

Hence the correct option is a) (16,0)

(v) If D is taken as the origin

We see that for the point P

Abscissa = - 12

Ordinate = 6

The coordinate of P if D is taken as the origin

Here the correct option is b) ( - 12,6)
