The drama the dear departed is written by Stanley Houghton .
Mrs Slater had always nurtured a liking towards grandfather's bureau and his clock. She decided to shift it to the living room downstairs because she feared her sister might stake a claim to it. So, she with the help of his husband Henry Slater she brought the bureau downstairs before the arrival of Jordans.
Actually,Henry was taken aback by Mrs Slater's suggestion as he believed that grandfather's possessions should be divided peacefully between the sisters.
But he had to give in to as his wife desires.
He was quite truthful, submissive and compassionate, a complete contrast to his wife.
He just helped Amelia Slater as he give in but he didn't wanted to do so .
this tells us about the vain, authoritative, selfish, inconsiderate and shrewd nature of Mrs Amelia Slater.

hope it helps
