Metals:

These form positive ion (+) by losing the electron mainly from the outermost valence shell. So, these are also known by the name as Electropositive elements.Example:- Gold,Silver and copper

Non-metals:

These form negative ion(-) by accepting the electron in their outermost shell. So, these are known as the electronegative elements .Example:- oxygen and nitrogen

Metalloids:

These shows the property of both metal as well as non metals. Example:- Boron and Silicon
