These classes are:Oxidoreductases,Transferases,Hydrolases, Lyases, Isomerases, andLigases. This is the international classification used for enzymes. Enzymes are normally used for catalyzing the transfer of functional groups, electrons, or atoms.

ENZYMES ARE CLASSIFIED BASED ON FUNCTIONS:

enzymes are classified according to the type of chemical reaction they catalyse

1) OXIDO REDUCTASE :-
enzymes that bring about oxidation reduction

2) TRANSFERASES (transferring enzymes):
enzymes that catalyse transfer of a group or radical between a pair of substrates

3) HYDROLASES:
break the substrate by adding a molecule of water
example: peptidases, esterases etcccc

4) ISOMERASES :
enzymes that catalyse interconversion of molecule (isomerization )without altering the atomic composition

5) LYSASES:
enzymes that catalyse the removal of groups from substrates by mechanism without hydrolysis leaving double bonds
example : decarboxylase and aldolases

6) LIGASES;
( ligare= to bind ) or synthases -Join two molecule or compounds
