(ii) Mid-latitude Forests:
- This type of forests are largely found in the moderate climatic region.
- Trees are generally deciduous and have broad leaves.
- They shed their leaves in the autumn season.
- Oak, ash, cedar, fir, birch, etc., are the important species of trees.
(iii) Mediterranean Forests:
- These forests are found in the mid latitude having winter rainfall and dry summer.
- Trees are adapted to seasonal changes, never shed their leaves in dry summer.
- Plants have spiny, waxy or small leaves.
- Cork, olive and chestnut are the common trees.
(iv) Coniferous Forests:
- These forests extend around the north polar region and high mountains in Europe, Asia and North America.
- Trees do not shed their leaves due to limited short summer, hence, look evergreen.
- These trees have thick needle shaped leaves to reduce transpira tion and protect themselves from cold winter.
- Soft wood trees like pine, cedar and fir are found in these forests.
