ALKANE -

  • An Organic compound containing carbon and hydrogen atoms.
  • When one hydrogen atom is replaced with a halogen element in the compound it forms a mono halogen derivative.
  • The mono halogen derivative of an alkane, alkene, and alkyne is known as haloalkanes, haloalkenes, haloalkynes respectively.
  • When the chlorine, bromine, fluorine, and iodine are attached to the carbon, forms mono chloro, bromo, flouro, iodo, alkane respectively.
  • On attaching Fluorine forms mono fluoro alkane, bromine forms mono bromo alkane, and iodine forms mono iodo alkane.
  • Example - CH_3Cl, CH_3Br, CH_3F, CH_3I.
