can be expressed as a fraction (ratio) in the form p over q where p and q are integers and q is not zero.
Examples: 1.75=7/4
Irrational Numbers:
An irrational number is a number that is NOT rational. It cannot be expressed as a fraction with integer values in the numerator and denominator.
Examples:one third in decimal form is 0.33333333333333 (the threes go on forever).
