Small scale industries are small manufacturing units set up with limited capital. They hire skilled labour. They are bigger than than cottage industries, but use lesser amount if capital and technology as compared to large scale industries. They also generate a great deal if employment. Though mainly they produce for the domestic markets, they also export to global markets. They use machined that run on power, obtain raw materials from out side, produce more in terms of volume compared to cottage industries and sell their wares through traders in the market. Almost all of them function under private sector. The contribution of small scale industries to development of the country us significant. Small scale industry units are engaged in silk warning, producing garments, food and leather items, manufacturing chemicals, furniture and fittings and automobile components.
