Answer:
In biology, adaptation has three related meanings. Firstly, it is the dynamic evolutionary process that fits organisms to their environment, enhancing their evolutionary fitness. Secondly, it is a state reached by the population during that process. Thirdly, it is a phenotypic trait or adaptive trait, with a functional role in each individual organism, that is maintained and has evolved through natural selection.

The description and relation between adaptation and inheritance is as follows:
Explanation:
- Adaptation is the ability of the organism's body to change itself structurally and functionally so that able to tolerate the environmental changes.
- The adaptation can be related to the inheritance. As when the organisms adapt to new traits they pass on these traits to the new generation thus the traits are inherited by the progeny organisms.
- This can be explained by the concept of natural selection in case of giraffe. the giraffe earlier had small necks as due to competition for food at the ground level the animals adapted with the long neck which helped them to obtain food leaves from the tree tops. This beneficial trait was inherited by the subsequent generations of giraffes.
