classify and explain the categories of soil on the basis of texture of soil
Answers
Answer:
on the basis of texture of soil it is classified into three categories -
1. Sandy soils-soils that are Sandy in nature are known as Sandy soils. These soils have more air space. These soils does not hold more water.
2. clayey soils-These soils have composition of smooth particles silt and clay. These soils have less air space and more water space. therefore, these soils have high holding capacity of water.
3. loamy soils-these soils are composition of sand, silt and clay particles. These soils are regarded as the best soil for production of crops.
The classification and explanation of soil on the basis of texture of soil are as follows :-
☆ Alluvial Soil - The alluvial soils vary in nature from sandy loam to clay. These soils are more loamy and clayey in the lower and middle Ganga plain and the Brahmaputra valley. The sand content decreases from the west to east.
☆ Black Soil - Black cotton soil (regur soil) is highly argillaceous i.e. clayey. It is deep and impermeable and thus has high water retention capacity. Soil Colour: These soils are black in colour due to the presence of iron, aluminium compounds and humus.
☆ Red Soil - The texture of red soil varies from, sand to clay, the majority being loam. Their other characteristics include porous and friable structure, absence of lime, kankar and free carbonates, and small quantity of soluble salts.
☆ Laterite Soil - The Laterite soils in India are not very fertile and are can be only used with sufficient manure and fertilizers dosage. They are coarse in texture and poor in nitrogen, phosphoric acid, potash and urea. These soils are red in colour as it is mixed with iron oxides.
● Apart from these four types, there are desert and mountain soils. They are found in their respective regions.
