Classification of materials on the basis of physical properties

Explanation:

  • According to physical properties, materials around us can be classify on the basis appearance, transparency, solubility and hardness.
  • Appearance property includes Materials which can shine are lustrous  and those materials which do not shine are non lustrous.
  • Transparency includes transparent, translucent and opaque materials. Materials by which image can be seen clearly are known as transparent materials. Materials through which blurred image can be seen are known as translucent material. Those materials through which no image can be seen are known as opaque materials.
  • Solubility includes soluble and insoluble materials. Solids which are soluble in water is known as soluble materials and solids which are not soluble in water are known as insoluble materials.
  • Next property is hardness. On this basis materials can be classify into hard and soft materials. Materials which can be cut easily are soft and which cannot are hard materials.
