Classify each of the following reactions as combination, decomposition, displacement or double displacement:
(i) 2Al + Fe2O3 → Al 2O 3 + 2Fe
(ii) 2KClO 3 → 2 KCl + 3O2
(iii) BaCl2 + Na2SO 4 → BaSO 4 + 2NaCl
(iv) CaO + H2O →Ca(OH)2 + Al2O3 + 2Fe

Answer:

  1. It is a displacement reaction as Al being more reactive than Fe idsplaces it from its solution.
  2. It is a decomposition reaction as KClO3 decomposes into Kcl and O2.
  3. It is a Double Displacement reaction as In the solution the cations and anions mutually exchange their places.
  4. The reactions should be CaO + H2O →Ca(OH)2. It is a combination reaction.
