Industries are classified on the basis of raw materials as
1. Agro based - They use products obtained from agriculture as raw material. ex - Cotton , Jute etc.

2. Mineral based - They use products obtained from fossils , rocks etc. as raw material. ex - Petroleum , Alumina etc.
