Answer:

Monomials = y square, 7mn, z2, 100.

Binomials = 4y - 7z, a2 + b2, 4p square q - 4pq square, z square + z.

Trinomials = x + y - xy, z square - 3z + 8, 1 + x + x, ab - a - b.

Hope it helps u !!!!!!!!

Question :-

To classify the following as monomials, binomials or trinomials

  1. x + y - xy
  2. 7mn
  3. 4y - 7z
  4. z² - 3z + 8
  5. a² + b²
  6. 1 + x + x
  7. 4p² + q - 4pq²
  8. 100
  9. ab - a - b
  10. z² + z

Answer :-

What are monomials, binomials and trinomials?

  • Expressions in algebra which have only one term are said to be monomials
  • Expressions which have 2 terms are said to be binomial
  • Expressions containing 3 terms are called as trinomials

The number of terms are separated by a (+) or a (-) sign.

Question 1 : y²

Here the only term is y². Hence, this expression is a monomial

Question 2 : x + y - xy

In this question, there are two signs (+) and (-) respectively separating the three terms. x,y and -xy are three separate terms. This expression is a trinomial

Question 3 : 7mn

The expression does not contain the signs (+) and (-). This expression is monomial.

Question 4 : 4y - 7z

The expression contains the sign (-) separating the two terms. The expression is a binomial.

Question 5 : z² - 3z + 8

There are two signs in the question (+) and (-) respectively. This expression is thus a trinomial having the terms z², -3z and 8 respectively.

Question 6 : a² + b²

The question contains two terms as the sign (-) is there. a² and b² are the two terms.

Question 7 : z²

The expression has only one term. Hence it's a monomial.

Question 8 : 1 + x + x

x is occurring twice. By adding the terms, we get 2x.

The expression formed will be : 1 + 2x.

Therefore, the expression is a binomial.

Question 9 : 4p² + q - 4pq²

The question contains 3 terms separated by the signs (+) and (-) respectively. The terms are 4p², q and -4pq².

Question 10 : 100

The expression contains only one term. Hence it's a monomial.

Question 11 : ab - a - b

In this question, the terms are ab, -a and -b respectively. The sign (-) is separating them. Hence this expression is a trinomial.

Question 12 : z² + z

The sign (+) is occurring. The terms are z² and z. Hence this expression is a binomial
