Minerals are categorized as Metallic- from which valuable metals such as iron, copper, can be extracted for viable use Non Metallic-are precious, not for the metals they contain, but for their properties as chemical compounds.

For example: - halite for sodium chloride and borax for borates.  

Extraction of any mineral depends upon its marketable viability depends on the following factors such as Concentration, Ease of extraction, and demand of minerals.
