Classification of neuron on the basis of number of process given out from cyton:
- APOLAR – the type of neuron which contains one protoplasma extends from cell body. They are common in insects.
- UNIPOLAR –mainly present in embryo stage. This is a type of neuron is found only in the invertebrates, where one process called as a neurite extends from cell body. Most of the neurons have multipolarity generating many dendrites and one axon.
- BIPOLAR- this neuron has two parts of extension one axon , one dendrite. these bipolar cells are mainly sensory neurons used to detect sense. They are part of sensory paths for smell, taste, sound, touch, etc.
- PSEUDO UNIPOLAR –dorsal root ganglion
- MULTIPOLAR –it possess a single axon & a no of dendrites, allowing integration of the information of other neurons.
